
Why should internationally active organisations concern themselves with decolonisation? How can transnational institutions meaningfully shape this process? What challenges, responsibilities, and opportunities arise as a result? On the occasion of the international meeting of the International Council of Museums (ICOM)’s Working Group on Decolonisation, experts from the fields of museums, culture, and science will discuss processes of decolonisation. Afterwards, ICOM Germany and Centre Marc Bloch invite you to a reception.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Hanna Pennock of the Cultural Heritage Agency, Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Netherlands and Chair of the ICOM Working Group on Decolonisation.
From 1–5 June 2025, the ICOM Working Group on Decolonisation convenes in Berlin at the invitation of ICOM Germany. From 2–3 June, the working group will be hosted by the museum agency as part of the programme International Dialogues. This initiative facilitates exchange among museum professionals, enabling them to jointly address the many contemporary challenges in cross-border cultural work.
The event is taking place in cooperation with the Agency for International Museum Cooperation, "inherit – heritage in transformation", and the Centre Marc Bloch, as well as ICOM Barbados, ICOM Canada, ICOM France, ICOM Netherlands, ICOM NATHIST, and ICOM ICOMON. It is supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and ICOM International (SAREC).
