From idea to concrete plan: Kick-off workshop with Schöneberg Museum × Leo Baeck Institute

How do you bring a successful exhibition from Germany to an international venue? That was the question facing the Schöneberg Museum after the close of “Das Leben festhalten” (Holding onto Life), an exhibition of Jewish family photographs dating from the National Socialist era, offering a rare perspective on Jewish life at the time.

Taking the exhibition to London was a natural development: several of the families photographed had emigrated there in the 1930s, and their descendants remain in the city to this day. There was already a connection with the Leo Baeck Institute London for research on German–Jewish culture.

This is where our service “It’s the kick-off” comes in: we bring in external specialists alongside all those involved, work through the early questions as a group, and lay the groundwork for what comes next.

In April 2026, we brought together the team at the Schöneberg Museum, Alice Riegler from the Leo Baeck Institute London, and external adviser Malte Roloff to turn the idea into a concrete plan. The agenda covered consultation on transport, customs and logistics, possible exhibition venues in London, a realistic timeline, and initial budget considerations. By the end of the workshop, the team had drawn up a checklist, established clear responsibilities, and set the project on course.

“It’s the kick-off” is open to museums, exhibition venues, and anyone working across borders in the museum sector, whatever your experience of international collaboration. Every workshop is tailored to your project, your questions, and your next steps.
